World of Wars part 3

How the 60's ended...

In 1969, the Philippines faced an Islamic Insurgency, as a result if the Moro Rebellion which ended in 1913. The insurgency is a result of Islamist groups believing that they're fighting an ongoing struggle against foreign rule. The Philippine government, backed by the USA have created Operation Enduring Freedom - Phillippines to combat this problem. It has seen an est. of 160 000 casualties.

After the Netherlands gave up Papua temporarily to the UN administration, the Indonesian Military arranged the Act of Free Choice Vote in 1969 to determine the views of the Papua citizens. The validation of the votes are disputed, as it favoured the Indonesia. An insurgency group Free Papua Movement (OPM) thus started attacks and protests against the Indonesian government for Independence.

Next, we take a 9year break and jump to late 70's....

World of Wars part 2

58years ago in 1953, the Nigerian Sharia Conflict started. Nigeria, a country in West Africa with an estimate population of 167million, of which approximately 50.5% are Muslims are fighting to change the government legislature to Sharia Law.Majority of this 50.5 % are based in the North, while 48.2% Christians and the remaining 1.4% are found in the center and south. Now in 2011 with almost 10, 000 fatalities and thousands of displacements, the conflict persists.

1964 marks the start of the Colombian Civil War and the Insurgency in_Northeast India.

The Colombian Armed Conflict as it is also known is a mess-up of Governmental, Paramilitary & Guerrilla groups all claiming to be fighting to protect the Colombian people with some drug trafficking and terrorism thrown in for good measure. Guerrillas fighting to protect the poor, Government for civilians and the general public (i.e. private companies and corporations) and Paramilitary trying to protect themselves against the Guerrillas. And yet, all this fighting seems to be doing more harm than good, resulting in +- 200,000 casualties and +- 4million displacements.

The Northeast Indian Insurgency is 7 Northeast states of India also known as the Seven Sisters who are commonly fighting for independence from their Motherland, India. There are also inter-state conflicts re: territories and borders. Each state has at least 2 political groups/councils/"armies", all fighting for autonomy, independence, (non)tribal freedom etc. Since 2005 this ongoing conflict and in-fighting has seen over 4000 fatalities.

Still in India, 3 years later 1967, the Naxalite-Maoist insurgency starts. Naxalites are communists fighting for the poorest rural parts yet they use women and children as shields and tools. Based in the Red Corridor, Naxalite-Maoist's are found in 83 districts in 9 states. The Indian Government has decided to deal with this head-on as this conflict has already resulted in approximately 11, 247 deaths.

More than 20years on, we're still not even half way through the on-going conflicts since the end of WWII...

World of Wars part 1

It's the year 2011, the world has witnessed two major wars namely World War I and World War II; and still we're fighting.

In the 66 years that passed since WWII, ""conflicts"" have popped up all over the place.

In 1948 the Korean Conflict starts as WWII ends, Japan gives up their rule of Korea and a country gets divided into North and South ending up in the Korean War from 1950-1953. The North being supported by China and the Soviet Union, while the South had the backing of the United Nations and the USA. Now in 2011, 58 years and millions of casualties/fatalities later, they're still fighting.

In 1948 after gaining independence from the United Kingdom, the Internal Conflict in Burma starts. Ethnic groups fight against Military Regimes and Human Rights violations. Buddhism becomes the official religion of the country and increases persecution of the Rohingya people. Still toda, after 63years and approximately 501,000 killed the Burmese government bullies it's people into joining their military government, as a result many are fleeing to refugee camps in Thailand and Bangladesh and other countries in the region.

Still in 1948 the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict starts as a result of the Arab–Israeli Conflict, which too is ongoing. Jews and Palestinians fight over everything from mutual recognition to basic Human Rights. Slowly Israel has moved in on Palestinian land and have divided the land with borders and compounds so that Palestinians need to pass border/check points to get to work, school, hospital, and all other basic necessities. The Israel-Palestinian Conflict is similar to the Apartheid Era of South Africa. Now in 2011, October 31,  Palestine becomes a member of UNESCO and the USA withholds funding.

Next is the year 1953...
